10th Brinnington Lantern Parade

Excuse me for quoting Take That, "All the stars are coming out tonight, they are lighting up the sky tonight for you" but that was just what it felt like on Saturday night for me and I know plenty more people in Brinnington. Wow what a night.

As the parade started you could feel the excitement in the air, and as the large cake lanterns came out there really were gasps of delight and all of a sudden the rain didn't matter. Groups of children gathered as they started the parade, proudly displaying their hand made lanterns. While walking round groups of people stood at doors, looking from windows, just cheering the procession on, and many following.

The dancers danced, the drummers drummed and the band played on, all the way around some of the streets of Brinnington, ending at Brinnington Park. I believe the hotpot was lovely but after serving well over 300 people we ran out. Good job family stayed back. Then the finale. We finished with a marvellous firework display.

Honestly, just too many people to thank, the lads and lassies from Reddish Vale, Phil our photographer (bless him) and staff and friends of Brinnington Park and oh yes Friends of Reddish Vale as well, who came up to support us. Thank you all so much.

The feedback we have all received has been wonderful. It was a night that will be remembered I am sure by a lot of people for a long time.
