Bats and Barbecue

It turned out to be a good night for bat watching on Sat 1/9/07. After the bbq we went to Sunnyside Pond to start the bat watch. We didn't have long to wait before we had pipistrells flying overhead and not just ordinary pipistrelles but soprano pipistrells.

We then moved onto the bottom pond where we saw daubenton bats and Britains largest bat, the noctule bat. We also picked up noctule bats on the bat detectors flying over the river.

Also at the barbecue, the world famous BAT BURGER made an appearance, the history of this Reddish Vale delicacy is shrouded in mystery but is thought to date back as far as 6.34am Sat morning. The ritual dance before the Bat Burgers were incinerated was unfortunatly not carried out (Health and Safety), but I believe it is quite exotic. If you have never seen a Reddish Vale Bat Burger click on the photo on the left, if you would like the secret recipe leave a message on the message board, but consult your doctor first.

Thanks to Anne, Tony, Peter, John and Dave the bat expert for a great evening, also thanks Brinnington Park for the loan of their bat detectors.
