Twenty-seven young anglers entered the under 16s Fishing Match today 30th August, It lasted for 4 hours, 10am until 2pm.

The winner weighed in 1 lb 7 oz of fish and had the pick of the prizes. He was torn between the 13ft match rod and the fishing reel. Other prizes were a 4 metre whip, 2 spinning rods and a box of lures. Some of the prizes were donated by Edgeley Sports. The intention was to have prizes for the best five catches. However there was a dead heat for 5th place so it was decided to flip a coin. Bill Worthen who acts as bailiff on the ponds most days was instrumental in the organisation of the match. Tony Davies, the assistant warden was in his element because he loves to encourage young people in his favourite sport. Bill is beaming out from behind the prize table and Tony is entertaining the crowd, as usual.

Can you see yourself in the pictures? What is your impression of the match? Did you enjoy it? Most of all, were you a winner? What event would you like to be organised in the Vale?
