The swans have been showing some odd behaviour for a while. The cob and one of his cygnets have been doing a courtship display together for a few weeks. Today they were head dipping and then started entwining their necks, then the cygnet tried to mount the cob, the cob responded by trying to mount the cygnet at the same time and this resulted in them both swimming around in circles together. Mute swan cygnets are not ready to breed until they are three years old, if anyone can shed any light on what is happening let us know.
The cob seems to be letting the cygnets stay on the ponds at the moment. One of the cygnets must have been having a bad day, he started chasing mallards around the bottom pond and then started on the coots finishing off with a bath.
