'Up The Tame'

By Anne Litherland

11 Febuary 2007

The "Up the Tame" walk followed the Tame Valley Way from Stockport, just off Lancashire Hill to Portland Basin in Ashton. It was 9.1 miles and run jointly by Stockport MBC (Anne Litherland) and Tameside Countryside Service (Ian Butterworth). We took a coach to Stockport and walked back to Ashton-starting at 9.50 and finishing at 3pm with 28 people taking part. We sell copies of the route at the Visitor Centre and Tameside will provide an opportunity for walkers to walk the rest of the route from the source of the Tame in Denshaw, Oldham to Ashton in July.
